Oh, Paris!

Wenn ich ganz ehrlich bin, dann fand ich es immer etwas lächerlich, wenn man über Paris als die Stadt der Liebe gesprochen hat. Ich meine, was soll an dieser Stadt so anders, so romantisch sein? Außer vielleicht, dass sich haufenweise Pärchen vor dem Eiffelturm eng umschlungen mit ihrem Selfiestick ablichten?

Tja, wieder ein Mal wurde ich des Besseren belehrt und ja, Paris ist verdammt noch mal unglaublich romantisch. Ich kann noch nicht mal sagen, was es genau ist, aber eine Mischung aus den wunderschönen Bauten, der Seine, dem Eiffelturm, der immer irgendwo hinter den Gebäuden hervorlugt, den unzähligen kleinen Boulangeries, den Menschen in modischer Kleidung und dem Duft nach Croissants und frischem Baguette wird es wohl sein. 

Lena und ich sind von Montag bis Donnerstag durch die Stadt gesteppt und ja - das meine ich Wort wörtlich: Wir haben kein einziges Mal die U-Bahn oder den Bus benutzt und sind so auf satte 83,65 km in vier Tagen gekommen. Zugegebenermaßen sind wir am letzten Abend die Straßen wie zwei gebrechliche alte Damen hoch und runtergelaufen und ich bin mir sicher, dass meine Muskeln kurz vorm Reißen waren! 

Unser Ziel für den Urlaub: Die Hauptattraktionen sehen, aber sonst lieber fern von den Touri-Hotspots bleiben! Wenn ich jetzt mal so überlege, haben wir das doch sehr gut geschafft. Notre Dame, Champs Élysées, der Eiffelturm, das Louvre (jedenfalls von außen) und die Sacré-Cœur wurden natürlich besichtigt. Dann saßen wir aber auch noch im Jardin du Luxembourg und haben uns durch die bunte Welt der Macarons durchgefuttert oder standen auf dem Dach der Galleries Lafayette und haben dem wilden Treiben der Stadt beim Einsetzten der Dämmerung zugeschaut.

Als wir die vier Tage durch die Straßen der Stadt gelaufen sind, sind uns einige Dinge immer wieder aufgefallen:

1. Wer in Paris Auto fährt, riskiert sein Leben. 10 Minuten saßen wir an der Champs Élysées und haben dem Verkehrstreiben mehr oder weniger mit offenem Mund zugeschaut. Gezählt haben wir bestimmt an die fünf Situationen, die nur haarscharf an einem Unfall vorbei sind.

2. Die Pariser Leute haben es modetechnisch einfach drauf. Von lässig stylisch bis super chic ist alles dabei und es sieht einfach immer gut aus. Können wir uns auf jeden Fall eine Scheibe von abschneiden ...

3. Es gibt an jeder Ecke gemütliche Cafés, die zum Verweilen und Kaffeetrinken einladen. Paris ist quasi ein riesiges (und noch schöneres) Prenzlauer Berg.

4. An die Mädels und Frauen unter euch: Auf den Gehwegen gibt unzählige Belüftungsschächte der U-Bahn! Haltet beim Rübergehen lieber Rock und Kleid fest - wir sprechen aus Erfahrung.

Leider drücken die Fotos nicht ansatzweise die Stimmung und Atmosphäre Paris aus, aber ich hoffe sie können euch trotzdem ein bisschen verzaubern. Und das ist auch gerade mal Teil eins der Serie, to be continued ...

To be honest with you: I always found it a little ridiculous how people were talking about Paris as the city of love. I mean, what is so special and so different about it compared to other big cities? Couples taking kissing and hugging selfies in front of the Eiffel Tower or what?

Oh well, and again I learned that I was wrong because Paris is freaking romantic and beautiful. I don't really know what it is exactly, but the mix of those beautiful buildings, the Seine, the Eiffel Tower, those cosy boulangeries, the people in fancy clothes and the smell of croissants and baguettes everywhere, has to make it. 

Lena and I walked from Monday to Friday through the city - and yes, by walking I literally mean walking, because we never used the bus or the metro and so in the end we walked two marathons in four days. But I have to admit that in the last night we were moving like to very old ladies and I swear that I felt my muscles tearing. 

Our mission on this holiday: Seeing all those famous places of Paris but then being as far away as possible from the touristic stuff. I think we did quite a good job and saw Notre Dame, Champs Élysées, the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre (alright, from the outside) and Sacré-Cœur. But we also relaxed in Jardin du Luxembourg and tasted all of those sweet and colorful macarons or we were standing on the roof of Galleries Lafayette and watched the city with its sun set - magical. 

In those four days we were experiencing Paris, we watched and realized some special things: 

1. Who ever is driving the car in Paris is risking his life. We sat about 10 minutes at Champs Élysées watching the traffic and counted around five more then risky situations which almost ended up in an accident. 

2. People from Paris look always good. They just know how to do fashion: from casual to super chic! 

3. At every corner there is a beautiful cafe - and when I say every corner I mean every freaking corner! I'd say, you could spend a few days in Paris just jumping from one cafe to another.

4. To the girls and ladies: Paris has a lot of ventilation shafts on its pedestrians and if you walk over it you better take care of your skirt or dress - we had experience with it. 

Unfortunately, the pictures won't tell you how great Paris really is, but I hope they still give you a little clue. Oh, and this is just part one of the pictures, to be continued ...
