Florida Wildlife

Ich dachte es ist mal an der Zeit auch ein wenig vom Wildlife Center zu erzählen, schließlich verbringe ich dort die meiste Zeit. Am Anfang war alles echt viel für mich, denn bei jedem Tier muss auf ganz besondere Dinge geachtet werden. Welcher Vogel bekommt welche Samen, an welchen Tagen kriegen die Opossums frisches Futter? Welche Eulen bekommen Mäuse? So viel auf einmal! Aber ich arbeite nun schon die vierte Woche dort und nun habe ich das meiste im Kopf, endlich. 

Unsere Aufgaben bestehen jeden Tag darin die Käfige zu säubern und den Tieren frisches Wasser und Futter zu geben. Glaubt mir, am Anfang hat es mich einiges an Überwindung gekostet halb zerfleischte Mäuse und Ratten aus den Käfigen zu sammeln, aber ich muss sagen man gewöhnt sich relativ schnell dran. 

Was mich am meisten überrascht, ist, dass mir die Arbeit im Krankenhaus am meisten Spaß macht. Und alle, die mich kennen, wissen, dass das wirklich erstaunlich ist, denn normaler Weise brauche ich nur eine Spritze sehen und könnte schreiend wegrennen oder in Ohnmacht fallen, aber hier? Überhaupt nicht! Tierärztin werde ich wohl nicht werden, aber es ist mal eine ganz andere Aufgabe mit neuen Herausforderungen und das gefällt mir! 

Auf Bild Nummer drei seht ihr Madeleine, die das Futter der Waschbären balanciert. Das Futter ist hier auch noch eine ganz spezielles Gebiet, denn wir bekommen Früchte, Joghurt, Gemüse und Fleisch von diversen Supermärkten, das sonst weggeworfen werden würde. Endlich mal eine gute Verwendung, wie ich finde!

Ob Opossum, Eule oder Eichhörnchen, ich habe diese Tiere ins Herz geschlossen und freue mich sie jeden Tag zu sehen, denn sie überraschen mich immer wieder.

 I thought it might be time for a report about my daily work at the Natur Center! In the beginning the work was quite hard for me because I din't know anything about all the animals. What seeds do the birds get and when do the opossums receive their fresh food? Which owl species gets mice? So much things to remember! 

But now I'm working there almost four weeks and I can finally do all the stuff without asking other people at the center. 

The daily things we do is cleaning the cages inside and outside, feed the animals and give them fresh water. The first few times I had to remove the parts of mice and rats that were left from the other day, it was kind of hard for me to do, because, I can tell you, this is nothing you like to see and touch. But you get used to it in a way and it's definitely not my favorite task, but I can do it. 

Surprisingly the work in the hospital is my favorite and people who know me can tell that this is astonishing because I could just run away or pass out if I see a syringe. But in this case? Not at all! I might not become a veterinarian, but it is a new challenge and I like that. 

In picture number three you can see Madeleine, who's balancing tow bowls of raccoon food. And the food is also a special part of the center because we get fruits, vegetables, yogurt and meat from supermarkets around this area, which would have been thrown away. A great possibility, in my opinion!

Whether opossum, owl or squirrel, I love those animals and I'm looking forward to see them everyday, because they surprise me every other day.
